New Release: Anders & The Flame Bearer

I’m so excited to share this magical new book with you: Anders & The Flame Bearer by Scott Welker. We received a special package from the author, Scott Welker, and he just went above and beyond to make the experience special for us (and it’s easy for you to duplicate at home too). Plus, he gave me a discount code to share with you guys!

Here’s a little about the story: “The klausen are a curious race: hardy and strong, yet always eager for winter’s first snow and a warm mug of soup. And Anders is sure he is the reason they are about to be destroyed. After all, he is the only klausen ever born without a power. So, surely, it’s his fault that their secret village has been discovered and the great flames are dying. If only he could gain magic of his own and put an end to all of this…then again, if the rumors are true, then maybe he can. But the Elders have been keeping a dangerous secret from him, and his forbidden journey is about to forever change his world.” (www.scottwelkerbooks.com)

When the package from Scott arrived, we were pleasantly surprised because it wasn’t just the book…it was filled with presents, each labeled with a chapter and a little illustration. And now as we read and reach certain chapters, we get to open the corresponding gift so it’s like a fun little reading scavenger hunt.

We’re just a few chapters in, but so far we’re all enjoying it. The first gift, corresponding to chapter one, was a wooden-wick candle. We immediately lit it while we kept on reading through chapter 2 and it made the ambiance cozy & just delightful. And, like I mentioned, you can totally recreate this experience at home using Welker’s free Reading Scavenger Hunt Guide.

Additionally, you guys should know that Welker has a Members Only section on his site that is especially designed for homeschoolers. With a one-time purchase, you get access to:

  • Weekly study guides that includes some vocabulary work, research ideas, creative projects, and writing prompts.

  • Videos from the author that give insight into the book and its world.

  • A Live Meetup + Author Q&A in-person (if you live in Utah) or online for everyone else. It is such a unique offering to really extend the educational experience and learn even more from the author.

Over on my IG stories you guys can follow along as we read the book and keep working through the gifts.

PS - since it’s November I think this would make a GREAT Christmas school experience. So far, I’m getting some northlandic kinda Norse vibes with this book. But, also, know it isn’t specific to Christmas at all so you can also recreate this experience at any other time of the year. I especially think this would be fun to do in January as something to look forward to during the winter blues.
