Recently in our Homeschool…

We are coming out of hibernation and are so ready for spring! Winters are hard for me so I am glad we’re headed into a new season!

I love to decorate our school room so we kicked off March decorating rainbow watercolor stars for a little St. Patrick’s Day decor. If you’re looking for a quick St. Patrick’s Day activity or like to have seasonal or holiday art projects on hand to use - I’d recommend checking out Art Makes Me Smart. I have a whole blog post on AMMS if you’d like to learn more. You can snag a monthly membership and have instant access to everything. We’ve also been enjoying the latest edition of our Millennial Instructor which is all on Ireland this month.

We’re chugging along with our core homeschool curriculum and we need to keep working on fluency over here so I just stocked up on a bunch of new readers for my boys!

The Good & The Beautiful is having their early bird sale (through March 17th). This is their biggest sale of the year and everything is 15% off site wide so whatever you’re eyeing - now is the time to get it. They rarely have sales because their curriculum is already so much cheaper compared to a lot of educational materials out there. I am super excited for their new LA courses 4 & 5 and the readers that come with them (or can be purchased separately). I am affiliated with TGTB so please don’t hesitate to reach out and ask my questions on anything and I am happy to help! You can check out my new TGTB page to see some of the other things I got for our 2026-2027 school year.

A few weeks ago we took a little break and visited southern Utah. We stayed near St. George and took a day trip into Kanab. We took a short .7 mile hike into the Peek-A-Boo slot canyon and then visited Cutler’s Point which was AMAZING! 10/10!!! If you’re looking to visit these areas you’ll need a side-by-side or truck to access them. Kanab is about an hour outside of Zion National Park - I have a blog post all about visiting Zion NP if you happen to be heading that way this year.

My girls finished reading the LOTR series and one of my boys finished listening to the Harry Potter series. They both promptly started re-listening to Harry Potter. Have you heard the new full-cast edition of the books? It is so fun!

Both of my boys finished up their handwriting books! Instead of starting the next level (which sometimes we’d do) I just decided to wait until next fall. It’ll give them something new to look forward to and we’ll keep practicing handwriting in other ways anyway. These are my favorite books to teach cursive with! I always start in 3rd grade or around 8 years old. (Bible book in pic linked here.)

We had a great time decorating Pysanky Easter Eggs with our homeschool friends. This was our second time having this experience and it is so fun! If you’re local to Utah you can reach out to @wax_on_wax_off_creations to book an experience for your family or co-op.

We’ve also been working through Greek Mythology and reading lots of good stories. If there is one Greek Myth I think every child should know I think it would be Theseus & the Minotaur. The girls each chose a Greek Goddess to report on for their English class and I love how their reports turned out. We’ve also been learning how to locate Canis Major, Canis Minor, Sirius, Castor and Pollux. I’d highly recommend the books 365 Starry Nights if you want to learn more about navigating the night sky! And, five gold stars to whoever can guess what series my girls are reading right now…if you’re familiar with Theseus & Castor and Pollux…you might be able to guess!

Finally, we wrapped up our Elements of Art Study from Deep Space Sparkle. I had so many questions about our cute art journals and I LOVE how they turned out. If you’d like to do something similar, I’d recommend watching Deep Space Sparkle’s reels on IG: this one shows the completed journal and this one shows the instructions on how to make them. I think you could totally just copy these! We’re also subscribers to The Sparkler’s Club and inside the membership there is a curriculum called EPIC (Elements & Principles Integration Curriculum). So I used this to teach the elements - it comes with PDF printouts of the elements and then lots of additional art projects to do. We averaged about one element a month and then did one extra art project with most of them where we were practicing that element (like line, color, contrast, ect.) The Sparkler’s Club membership only opens 2x a year though so it’s not like an instant access type of deal. It’ll open again in August so if you want to do something similar - I’d put it on your plans for the 2026-2027 school year…or you could also just look up your own art projects and reference those cute little journal reels! :)

Over the next few weeks we’ll be keeping our load a bit lighter so we can welcome in Easter. This Holy Week Companion Guide is my absolute favorite and I am so happy to see it’s been made updated into a flip-book (I have an older PDF version). This year as part of our Old Testament study we’ve also been learning about Biblical feasts. I am loving both the Celebrating Biblical Feasts (for all interested denominations) and The Feasts and Festivals of the Messiah (for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and would highly recommend them. Each year we traditionally hold our own Passover/Seder dinner. Both of those books have more information on that. Historically I have pulled from this script from the Isaiah Institue (modified a bit for our family) and we use our family Seder plate. This year my husband and I are actually attending a larger Passover Seder with some friends which I am really looking forward to. It is aimed to be an educational experience so I am excited to learn more and bring it back to our home for the kids to experience. Traditionally, we also love to watch The Prince of Egypt this time of year. I have all our Easter books listed on our Spring Book List. The Donkey Who Carried a King is our favorite to read every Palm Sunday.

That’s it for now! I’d love to hear what’s been happening lately in your homeschool! Happy Spring!
