Adjustable Leg Homeschool Table

Our homeschool table is hands down one of my most asked about items in our home. We’ve had it for nearly five years now and one of the things I love most about it is that it’s adjustable!

I haven’t shared an updated post since we transitioned it from a little kid table to a big kid setup. Pretty much since we started homeschooling, we’ve kept it lower to the ground with toddler chairs. It worked so well and I loved it! Admittedly, as a former preschool teacher, I was a little attached to the tiny furniture, ha! But last school year my twins were clearly outgrowing it and it was time for a change. So, about six months ago we raised the legs and swapped out the chairs for larger ones and the change has been fantastic.

Also, originally, we just had the one table in our school room. A few years ago we added a second identical setup in our playroom as a LEGO table though. The idea was that when we eventually outgrew the smaller school table, we could raise the legs and combine the two —and here we are!

Here are all the details if you’re looking to recreate something similar:

Tabletop

Ikea Lagkapten Tabletop

I love a simple white surface for schoolwork. The exact size we have is no longer available at IKEA, but I’ve linked the next closest option which is just barely a touch longer and wider. (For room reference ours measures 59“ x 29.5”) One question I get asked a lot whether or not it’s easy to clean. And, yes it is, I wipe it down with Meyers All-Purpose Spray weekly or whenever it needs it.

I do try to have my kids use art trays, but, that doesn’t always happen. When we use Sharpies or our favorite alcohol based markers, I make sure they double up with card stock underneath, but, of course, there have been a few times when someone forgets. While some paints and markers are also harder to clean, I’ve had good luck using Soft Scrub OxiCleaner for sharpie and paint stains.

Adjustable Legs

Adjustable Table Leg Set

IKEA does offer adjustable legs, but we found these ones on Amazon to be sturdier. That was important when we first set it up because my toddlers were big climbers and I wanted something that wouldn’t collapse if they climbed up on the little chairs and then onto the table. And, like I mentioned, I love that the legs grow with our kids. It’s a setup that has worked long-term which is really nice. You do need to screw these in though so have a drill handy!

Child-Size Chairs

Lifetime Child Size Chairs

Aren’t these the cutest? We originally got them from Costco and have 8 total—4 in green and 4 in white (the white ones were at our LEGO table). You can also find these on Amazon and the stock & price will fluctuate between being more expensive/cheaper when compared to ordering from Lifetime

Larger Chairs

White Dining Table Chairs

We first bought two of these chairs for my daughter’s twin desks and liked them so much we grabbed a 4-pack for the school table. The first ones came from Hobby Lobby, but Amazon had the exact same style for a better price even with shipping.

If you end up putting together a similar setup, let me know! We’ve been so happy with this set up. The smaller table served us well for years, but this larger setup gives us the space we need —especially for art projects and family-style learning. It’s been such a good upgrade for our growing homeschool!
